How MOVE Mobility strengthened its charging network with vaylens’ EV charging management software

MOVE Mobility, a Swiss EV charging company, needed a robust EV charging management system to scale its network and client base while offering automated billing and real-time, actionable data analysis.
vaylens’ EV charging management software offered API-based integrations, automated billing, real-time monitoring and efficient data flows to help support MOVE Mobility’s complex operational needs for its business and fleet clients.
With the help of vaylens, MOVE Mobility migrated 100 high-power chargers and 5,000 drivers for a high-profile intercontinental client while maintaining 99.99% uptime during the operation, meeting a non-negotiable deadline without the hassle.
What happens after you meticulously plan the installation of your charging stations to create a comprehensive network? It starts with EV charging management software (CMS) you can trust to push your operation forward, not hold it back.
MOVE Mobility, a Swiss EV charging company founded in 2017, operates one of Switzerland’s largest charging networks, with over 5,000 charge points. While MOVE facilitates Charge Point Operator (CPO) and Mobility Service Provider (MSP) services, its core role lies in providing uncomplicated EV charging access and transactions for a range of use cases.
With business, fleet and private customers, MOVE Mobility required a single CMS that could handle multiple charging locations, support automated billing and integrate with its existing systems. The EV charging management software also needed to be ready to support new standards as they’re introduced to the industry, like Plug & Charge, predictive maintenance and flexible payments by debit or credit card.
The challenge: scaling EV charging for business and fleet charging solutions
MOVE Mobility’s success in Switzerland has resulted in over 50,000 subscribed customers and a roughly 50-50 split of public and non-public charge points.
With thousands of EV drivers, fleet operators and business operations managers relying on MOVE’s charging network every day, the company faced a challenge: How could it maximise uptime while continuing to offer seamless charging, billing and data access as the business grows?
“MOVE takes care of the whole software side, as well as billing and customer service, and we bring together the two ends–charging station owner and charging station user–to facilitate the whole charging process for all EV drivers.”
Felix Rug, Head of Product Management and Operations at MOVE Mobility
As more businesses, fleet operators and private customers relied on MOVE’s infrastructure, it would become more difficult to keep technical operations running smoothly. And billing needed to be automated across different customer types; payments should remain straightforward for drivers while being accurate and transparent for station operators needing reliable data records.
The added complexity of MOVE’s CPO customers needing to manage energy use across fleets, workplace charging sites and public charge points also made real-time monitoring a key requirement of MOVE’s chosen CMS. Without a backend system that could support this level of operational demand, MOVE risked the growth of its charging network and customer base–as well as its reputation as a reliable and attentive service provider.
Additionally, the push for Swiss public transport to embrace electric mobility makes it clear that firms like MOVE will be needed to serve a growing market of public fleets. The company needed a CMS that could stop growing pains from developing as it scaled.
The solution: a seamless integration with vaylens
For MOVE Mobility, vaylens stood out because of its ability to integrate with the existing systems it depends on for its CPO and MSP services. We use vaylens EV charging management software’s APIs to securely collect and distribute the backend data that fleet and operations managers rely on every day.
“At the core of our daily operations is vaylens. Their charging management system connects all 5,000 of our charge points so we can guarantee the best uptime. This way, we can focus on serving our customers while vaylens handles the heavy lifting, like roaming integrations, monitoring and scaling.”
Felix Rug, Head of Product Management and Operations at MOVE Mobility
One of the key factors in MOVE’s decision was the need for a backend that could support API-based fleet and business integrations. MOVE’s business customers needed a system that would allow them to track energy use, simplify invoicing flows across use cases and automatically collate their charging infrastructure’s vital data.
“All our chargers are connected through the vaylens CMS, and this system is connected to our Mobility Service Provider system through OCPI.”
Felix Rug, Head of Product Management and Operations at MOVE Mobility
A real test of MOVE’s capabilities came when it needed to migrate our customer’s charging network, a major petrol station business operating in Switzerland with 100 high-power DC chargers and 5,000 drivers relying on their network. Moving such extensive infrastructure without service disruptions was no small feat, but with vaylens’ pre-migration setup, there was a near-seamless transition.
Our customer’s CPO and MSP operations were migrated to MOVE, which in turn integrated with the vaylens CMS to streamline backend processes.
“We were able to set up all [of our customer’s] charging stations before the migration date. On migration day, we only changed configurations, and there was almost no downtime at all.” Felix Rug, Head of Product Management and Operations at MOVE Mobility
Though these projects are often time-consuming and stressful, MOVE reported that from a CPO point of view, all the charging stations were set up in their new system before our customer’s deadline. Their users could continue to access their fleet charging solutions on the official migration day because only minor adjustments were left.
With our customer having a hard stop due to its previous service provider agreement end date, meeting this deadline was non-negotiable. Doing so without the stress–even on Easter weekend–was even better.

The results: a more efficient, scalable charging network
“When we migrated 100 DC chargers and 5,000 drivers from another platform to vaylens, it happened seamlessly with minimal downtime, even under a tight deadline.”
Felix Rug, Head of Product Management and Operations at MOVE Mobility
With vaylens, MOVE Mobility has significantly improved the efficiency of its charging network, onboarding of customers and technical capabilities, evident in this migration.

vaylens CMS is now helping MOVE process tens of thousands of transactions every month, making payments and billing a non-issue for businesses, fleet operators and private drivers.
vaylens also strengthened MOVE’s ability to guarantee uptime across its 5,000 charge points. The CMS gives station operators access to real-time monitoring and proactive maintenance, contributing to MOVE’s 99.99% uptime.
“What’s next? Well, we’re quite excited about vaylens’ predictive maintenance, which could prevent outages before they happen. Other features like Plug & Charge and bank card payments will also make EV charging even more convenient for our customers.”
Felix Rug, Head of Product Management and Operations at MOVE Mobility
By prioritising smooth operations in the backend with vaylens, MOVE Mobility is positioned to deliver a smooth service to its growing customer base. It’s ready to support the next wave of technological standards customers will come to expect in the EV charging industry.
